Tencent, the Chinese technology company, released Hy4 on Wednesday, Nov. 4. It is the newest version of Hy, Tencent's own family of AI models. Tencent says Hy4 adds the ability to understand images for the first time. Tencent says it can also operate a computer for the first time, using both typed commands and the windows and buttons of ordinary apps. Tencent says it trained Hy4 to use professional software, such as the 3D design program Blender and the computer design (CAD) tools engineers use to draw parts.
Developers can use Hy4 now, and it runs inside several Tencent apps, including the office assistant WorkBuddy. Prices are set per million tokens, the small chunks of text, often parts of words, that AI models read and write. Tencent charges developers less than a dollar for every million tokens fed in and less than three dollars for every million it writes. Tencent says that is the same price as Hy4 preview, the earlier test version. Through Dec. 31, Tencent Cloud is selling Hy4 at half that price.
Tencent says it plans to publish Hy4's model weights in the coming days. Those are the model's trained files, so anyone could download it and run it on their own computers. Tencent has already done this for Hy4 preview, whose files are free to download now. Tencent also plans to publish a report on Hy4's safety tests when it releases the files. Tencent has not said what computer hardware Hy4 takes to run. Tencent says it left material on exploiting security flaws out of Hy4's training, and that Hy4's skill at planning biology experiments sits well below the level Tencent counts as high risk. Tencent says it found no evidence that Hy4 meaningfully makes it easier to cause biological harm.
Tencent's scores for Hy4 come from its own tests, several of them designed by Tencent. In one, 213 finance professionals rated answers to 579 real finance tasks. Hy4 scored 3.04, against 2.97 for DeepSeek's V4.1 Flash and 2.68 for Kimi K3.1 Pro, and Tencent says that put Hy4 first among models whose files are open to download. Tencent says Hy4 also makes up facts less often than the preview, though its two announcements give different figures for how much less.
Tencent itself says a notable gap remains between Hy4 and the top private models, especially on research-level math, long coding jobs and hard questions about images. A news report also says Hy4 still trails them. Tencent has not said which license will cover Hy4's files, which decides how freely businesses may use them. Tencent released the preview's files under the Apache 2.0 license, which lets anyone use, change and share them free of charge. The outside test results Tencent points to come from companies it quotes on its own page.
